Six colours, one sound
Hextet’s debut — and the song that started it all
It started in a park. No grand stage, no sold-out venue — just a small square in Bleiswijk, a warm evening, and nearly a hundred people who had no idea they were about to witness something new being born.
On April 24, Hextet played their very first concert. Six young musicians, all trained at the conservatory, all believers in the idea that music sounds better when it travels — to new places, new ears, new hearts.
From the deep rumble of the bass clarinet and baritone sax, up through the saxophones and clarinet, all the way to the bright, airy voice of the flute — the sound of Hextet spans a full spectrum. Colourful, they call themselves. And they mean it.
“It is, of course very special when they write a song for you. It’s a beautiful piece — calm and cheerful. At least, that’s what others told me.”
Oma Mia
The evening doubled as the launch of their debut single: Mia. Written by Fabian — who grew up in nearby Bleiswijk and learned to play music in Zoetermeer — the piece is a gift. A quiet, joyful tribute to his grandmother. When asked what it felt like to have a song written for her, Oma Mia answered with the kind of honesty that makes you smile and tear up at the same time.
The people in the park that evening — some in the chairs that lined the path, most just standing, drawn closer — heard something that can’t quite be explained. Music made from love tends to travel differently. It lands.
Mia is now available everywhere you listen.
